Kenneth Higney released "Attic Demonstration", a collection of quickly recorded demos, in 1976. The record was never intended to be a proper album, but a means with which Higney could attempt to sell his songs to other artists. The album gained in stature over the decades due to its unique sound and world view. Higney released a much more polished single in 1980 that finds him paying tribute (at least vocally) to the punk scene in New York at the time. In 2009 Higney released his second full length album "American Dirt" which was followed up by "Ambulance Driver" in 2011

Did you make tapes when you were younger? - Tapes of you and your friends or siblings making a ruckus. Maybe you even made a few songs. Kenneth Higney brings that same magic to this record. The songs sound ridiculous at first, but buyer beware. You will have them reverberating around in your head for some time, especially the one called No Heavy Truckin. There is a sheer beauty to this record that is indescribable. From the spring reverb drenched guitar solos that are just so heavy, to the pained and strained voice of Kenneth. Maybe it's the sincerity. Or could it be the rockin' guitar? Maybe it's the beautiful yet pained little part of our hearts that remembers the big dreams we once had when we were young. It's hard to say what makes this record so special. It does rock, and it is catchy, but it is the vulnerability of the record that pulls us in. It's why people are paying up to 200 bucks for the original pressing on certain auction sites. This record will not only make you love Kenneth; it will make love being human.

The first time I heard "Look at the River", I was horrified, but the recording slowly grew on me. I was intrigued by the quality of the recording and the vocal undulations and coarse sounds that Higney produced. I wound up listening to "Look at the River" repeatedly, and I wound up really enjoying the song. I read other peoples' reviews of the entire album, hearing that it was considered a very popular album with cult status. I decided to take the plunge and purchase the whole album on CD.

What I realized is that this album is quite addicting...I love every note and imperfection. This album is really fun to listen to. The music works its way into my brain like an unwelcome guest, and what it has become is an "I wish I discovered this album years ago!" piece of art. What initially sounded like a discordant, chaotic, almost sloppy recording has grown to become one of my favorite albums.
